It was FAT under DOS and Windows 9X. When larger drives came along, there
wasn't enough addressing functionality to allow for them, so the new FAT32
system was devised to cope with this change.

Hi,

If my memory is correct, in 1997 or so and before it was called FAT16.
Why the terminology changed, I have no idea.
