Debra,
I think you are right about the way the transfer tool opens
up a directory to display file names. I have never really understood
the advantage of using the first line of each file as its filename in
bookcourier. I really wish it would just use the filename it already
has on the computer. It is particularly annoying when I load a large
number of files which have the same first line. The tool then tries to
obverwrite the first with each new one and I have to go back to the
computer and edit the forst line of each file.

Anyway, it is'nt going to br changed now.

My advice is to work with many small folders, avoid too many subfolders
and think about preparing the files before you load them onto the
bookcourier.

Yes, and I've tried with Jaws, WindowEyes and NVDA, on three different
computers. It doesn't actually hang, it just seems to be doing some
processing that takes forever. Go get yourself coffee and come back, and
it will take another keystroke.

The problem is that when you navigate to a new entry with arrow keys, it
appears frozen like a snow cone again.

I think what is happening is this: it's not looking at filenames. It is
opening each file to find out what book title that file refers to. It is
using some kind of poor algorithm to do this whose performance suffers
when there are a large number of files and directories to traverse in
the tree. I know how to program and I am sure it would take me some
effort to figure out a way to do this quickly.

Subject: [bookcourier] Transfer Tool Problem

I have been using my book courier since I purchased it in 2005,
andlately I have been having some issues with the transfer tool. In
folders where I have more than about 90 books, the transfer tool
completely hangs when I try to transfer books or look at the books
already in the folder. Also, it seems as though operations in the
transfer tool itself are very slow. This did not happen when I first got
the book courier and only started to happen a few months ago. Has this
happened to anyone else on this list? If so, how did you fix it? Any
help would be sincerely appreciated!
Regards,
Megan
