If one were to request the new keypad in order to avoid another
re-furbishing eventually involving this being replaced, would that be
reasonable?

The $65 (US) BookCourier tune-up includes a new keypad, if necessary.

Kate,
Does recasing include a new keypad? I hate to chuck my bookcourier
away as all that seems to be broken is the keypad. I did have it cleaned by
the local distributor but I think it needs more than that now.

Hi Jeanette,

We do have a few battery doors available. We can also completely re-case a
BookCourier for an additional $25 (US). If anyone is interested, send an
email to support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and we'll set up the service for you.

Hi, Katy,

A question about the tune-up -- can a new battery door be provided as well
as the rest of the clean-up?

Subject: [bookcourier] Future BookCourier Development
Hi everyone,

First, I want to apologize for the way that information about BookCourier
development was conveyed to the group. We should have made an announcement
to the group and not to an individual. We do appreciate the loyalty of this
group and I'm sorry about the way this situation was handled. Here is what
we should have said:
Due to the current economic conditions, Springer Design has stopped work on
new development for BookCourier. The time has come for the company to change
course and pursue other opportunities. This shift in focus means we will not
release BookCourier Braille or add any enhancements to BookCourier. However,
we will continue to support all products in the field. As an example, we
recently made changes to the Transfer Tool software so that Bookshare.org
and Audible files would continue to work with BookCourier. We are also happy
to provide a tune-up for your BookCourier (see below for details).
The user group will remain intact for the time being and I will continue to
monitor the list. This group was originally started by Peter Scialli of
ShrinkWrap Computing who passed away nearly a year ago. He is still
considered the owner of this list although I do have some administrative
privileges. You are welcome to use the list to discuss other products and to
ask questions about BookCourier. You can also contact Springer directly
through email ( support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ).
We are planning to revamp the web site so that it contains only information
about how to get service for an existing BookCourier.
Working with all of you has been a pleasure. We appreciate your support and
loyalty.

Katie

BookCourier Tune-up. Springer will replace the keypad, check and replace the
battery contacts, if necessary, and generally clean-up the unit inside and
out. This service costs $65 (US) and includes return shipping by Priority
Mail. Just contact us at support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and we'll set up the
service for you.
