The poor sound quality may be due to the books you are reading. I have found on some Audible books, such as Jules Vern Around the world in 80 days, the original was done only in format 1. The format four version sounds like they just did some mucking around with the original recording to make it format four compatible, but it just sounds like a clear copy of a crappy recording. Give an example of one of the books and maybe someone else has it and can tell you if it is a bad recording or audible.co.uk.
