And this is even more the case with BBC dramas and similar, where stereo effects are used. I think I'd be far more likely to buy such material on CD, for that reason.

When I downloaded Hamlet it would have been good to have heard it in stereo,
especially as the original production from Naxos would have been stereo.

Why is stereo quality necessary anyhow if you're just listening to someone
read a book? Now, as far as for my listening pleasure when it comes to
music, can't do without stereo.

Steve and andrew

Have to agree with you here, it's a shame that they don't have any stereo
formats and that the quality is quite poor compared to CD. I guess that
they've done the research into the file size most people will be prepared
to download, server capacity, connection speed and so on. I guess as
blind people we are perhaps more likely to be "audiophiles", and also as
BC users we have the advantage of being able to purchase and use as much
storage as we need for our audio files, whereas someone with a 256MB
player with an album or two on there isn't going to want to fill the whole
thing up with a few chapters of an audio book. The other issue is that
Audible is great value compared to any other option for purchasing books,
so if I were you I'd sit back and enjoy your reading until everyone's got
super-fast broadband andAudible can bump the quality up a bit. format 8,
anyone?

I agree it's probably OK for books but I have purchased a couple of dramas
which are meant to be in stereo and I just find the quality unacceptable
for
that kind of thing. I think it's a shame as they have an aweful lot of
the
BBC Radio Collection on there.

Andrew,

I have likewise been disappointed by the quality of Audible files. Many
say
it is fine, but quality is in the ear of the listener. I do find that
after
a while I get used to the scratchy, compressed sound and, if the book is
good, I can sit back and enjoy.

Hi,

As the BC is Audible ready, I have signed up to Audible.co.uk. However I
was led to believe that the sound quality on the format 4 files was
excelent, practically CD quality! The files I'm downloading are
certainly
not of that high standard. I was wondering whether anyone else is
finding
this and what the reason might be. I have to say I am disappointed in
the
sound quality I am getting.

All the best,

Andrew
