Sure, over type mode can be changed back simply by hitting the bypass command in your screen reader, insert-B in Window-Eyes, and insert - 3 in jfw and hit the insert key by itself right after that command. That will fix it to the other, "OVR" which shows on the bottom of the screen during composing, or nothing, if insert mode is on.
