I think you have a misconception about how much a Mac costs. Most Windows users think Macs are so much more expensive. In fact, they're extremely competitive. I know people who have spent much more on their Windows boxes than others have on their Macs. True, you can find generic boxes for less but you get what you pay for.

Actually I would be much happier if it were to go the other way - run
Mac OS X on generic Intel machines.  I would love to run the Mac OS on
my currently owned windows box.  In fact, if Voice over gets just a
little bit better, i would love to scrap winblows entirely and just run
the Mac and Linux partitions instead.  But to buy a new Mac from start,
that would set me back quite a bit.
