Merv, I think that Zoomtext Fusion is essentially AI Squared's answer to the
JAWS/MAGic combination in that this is really designed to be one screen reader
to satisfy the needs of both the low vision as well as the blindness market. Of
course, the $999 pricetag is a bit much for a totally blind user who doesn't
need low vision at all but it's really the competitor to JAWS and MAGic.
Because MAGic essentially incorporates pieces of JAWS into their speech
component, MAGic by itself is probablly much better than Zoomtext
Magnifier/Reader as MAGic, even without JAWS, is more robust when it comes to
speech output. I'm not qualified to discuss a comparison of the low vision
features of both products.

I would love to know how this compares to running Magic with Jaws which as
you know are designed to work together. I myself don't have Zoomtext and
can't afford to purchase it right now since I only use it about one percent
of the time. Plus I have Magic and Jaws already and it is paid for up to and
through like the next two versions at least. But I know people who have both
Window Eyes and Zoomtext or just one or the other and I would love to know
how Fusion compares with running jaws and Magic simultaneously.
Especially with Office and remote access type applications.

Subject: [blind-philly-comp] Zoomtext Fusion Announced

AI Squared is now offering Zoomtext Fusion, in addition to their existing
Zoomtext Magnifier and Magnifier/Reader.
From what I can tell, Zoomtext Fusion incorporates aspects of Window-Eyes
into Zoomtext to add more speech capabilities. This is not surprising,
considering the merger between AI Squared and GW Micro, makers of
Window-Eyes. This is also very much needed, as Zoomtext offers an adequate
though not spectacular speech experience, especially when using keyboard
commands to navigate Web pages. Fusion incorporates the browse mode of
Window-eyes, meaning the Web will be much more verbal for ZT users than it
ever was with Reader. This product costs $99.00 if you're upgrading from the
retail version of Window-eyes and $999 for the full version. I've heard
nothing about a free version for users of Office as we have with
Window-eyes.
