I've added it to the Wish List, but according to the 
brief synopsis, it's from the vewpoint of a 3-year-old
boy who sees his family's struggle with "a meager
farm" rather than a coal-mining family. Are you sure
you're thinking of the right book? (I had to check to
see if it was fiction or nonfiction. smile
