Here's a couple of quick things that help me when validating.

1. To replace section breaks with page breaks in MS Word: replace ^b with
^p^m^p.
2. Replace all em dashes - with double dashes --. It's not required, but
most Braille-readers prefer it.
3. Replace bullets . with stars *. Again, not required but an easy fix.
4. Remove soft returns by putting Karat dash ^- in the find box and then hit
the delete key in the replace field.
5. Then read the book. One doesn't have to read it in order to validate,
but in my experiences reading through the book is the best way to insure a
quality submission.

I'm sure there are more things but these are what come to my head right
this second.

Thanks to all our validators,

Allison

For scanning Kurzweil is essential. Also for validating, either Kurzweil
or
MS word is great. I sometimes use my Braille note to edit but find that
the
BAN will truncate my files sometimes which is very frustrating.
Often I will use my bookport to read when I'm out and about, then make any
changes when I'm at home.
