Gwen, nobody expects scans to be perfect. That's why we have proofreaders and 
why scanners don't proofread their own scans. Don't give up until your books 
get rejected two or three times. It may be that your books can easily be fixed 
by proofreaders who know what they're doing.  submit a couple of them with 
holds for grandma Cindy.
