I would suggest that there are times such as "two- or three-storey" where the dash space is appropriate.. If you replace dash space combinations, do a rank spelling afterwards.

Amber, I think you could replace hyphen space with nothing at all. You might want to be careful about doing a global replace on that, though, if you have double hyphens instead of em dashes. Or first make sure all of your double hyphens have no spaces after them (global replace for that would be easy to do).
