I think synopses, if used, pretty much say it all. If I look at a book called something like "Case Study", I pretty much know it is a textbook. And, of course, there are lots of things that are "textbooks" that might be enjoyed by lots of folk. Many of us are most likely to read stuff we would enjoy. If they are in a "textbook" category, we might put it off unless we took time to read a symopsis. I don't do them because I see enough during the school year, though I am currently doing one that is used as one and did that case study one that was dry but surely needed.
