Funny, I sent that one a long time ago. Coolness glad you're able to help the person who originally started this thread.

You want the sophistication to lie in the purity of the sound, the beauty of the arrangements, and the quality of the performances."-Trumpeter Chris Botti--

Very true, and here is a link where you can find the codes for all the
symbols you may need.

You can also obtain nonkeyboard characters by making sure your numlock
key is on, then holding down the alt key while entering 0 followed by
the number of the character on the numeric keypad. For example, to get
the em dash, simply hold down the alt key and enter 0151 on your
numpad. The advantage of this method is that it is nonapplication
specific, so you don't have to remember how to do it in the particular
application you're using.

That's a neat trick, Mayrie.

This symbol can also be put into the search and replace box by typing
in ^ (shift and the 6 key simultaneously) and then a plus sign.

Hi Tracy,

You can simply copy that symbol to your clipboard and paste it into
the find box of the find and replace dialogue and replace with
whatever you want to replace it with. If you want to find the symbol
and don't have one to copy, you can press the Jaws insert key and the
number 4 in the number row which will bring up a list of characters
listed in alphabetical order.
When in
this list, pressing enter will put the character which you hit enter
on into your document. From there, you can search on it in any way
you like.

Hope that helps.

When I need to replace the MDash, I go to the replace dialog,
control-h, tab to "more", hit enter, then tab to "special" and arrow
down until I find the character I want. Then I hit enter, tab to the
"replace with"
and put what I want to replace it with. Then, if I feel really
confident, I go to "replace all" and let it rip.
The "special" list has a couple kinds of dashes, tabs, column
breaks...all kinds of things you might wish to find or replace.

What I want to know is, how do I find the symbol Jaws reads as
"degrees"?
Tracy

I think this is what you are looking for.

  Hi List.
I'm working on a book and I need to know how to make a long
dash, in order to replace it with two dashes. I got some of them
when proofing but I forgot to replace them for part of the book.
Kellie gave me this great file that has nonkeyboard characters in
it, and I think the long dash is one of them, but now jaws twelve
won't
read
some of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  thanks,
  Julia
