Rain i zonce? My teachers in school and college always pronoounced it ren i
zonce. Is the "rain" sylable the British pronounciation?

In my mind, r e n a s c e n c e means rebirth, but in
the dictionary is another word for r e n a i s s a n c
e. I think which word you need depends on the author,
when and where the book was written, and the context.
Usually, it seems to me, r e n a s c e n c e has a
wider meaning-- renascence, or recurring, or something
from before. Renaissance usually, and also in the
dictionary, usually seems to refer to the particular
period between medieval and modern times and what
occurred there, like Renaissnce art. One could write a
sentence such as "In the 1920s there was a renascence
of Renaissance music."
