Yes, you would have had to change the page count each time you retried,
because, if you received an error, it wouldn't have retained anything
you changed. Next time you receive an error, try deleting the
publisher's name from the publisher field, and put the publisher in the
comments field, so that Carrie can add it in. There was also a problem
with authors whose first name was an initial, but I think that has been
fixed. If neither of these work, wait a few hours and try again. If you
are still having difficulties, email Carrie, and let her know You're
having a problem. She may be able to help.

There was probably just a problem with the server, or for a while there
was a problem with the author field, and then the publisher field. One
of these was most likely the problem and not the page count.

I'm pretty sure that the book with too many pages was actually fine.
When you check in a book that you've proofread, I don't believe that
it is analyzed again for the number of pages. The number of pages is
an edit box where you can enter the number of pages. Many time I have
had to change this to reflect the actual number of pages in the book.
So, for future reference, don't be worried if the number of pages
isn't the same as the number in your file.
I'm sure that some of the older books may be more complicated than
some proofers can handle, but I'm also sure that some were overlooked
and some people just weren't interested in proofing. There are several
books on Shakespeare and Wordsworth, that have been up there for a
long time, that I, and I'm sure others, are simply not interested in,
but they may be perfectly good scans. I don't know. I'm also sure that
there's someone who would be willing to take them, but may not have
seen them.

I had 3 books I had to release one had to many pages, I got the extra
pages out OK because it was a repeat of the same book, but when I
went to put it back up it still said the original number of pages, so
I knew there was some kind of trouble that I could not fix.
The other two had something about page breaks not being right, and I
knew I'd screw those up, so had to let them go.

I also released this book for that reason. I'm thinking that, when
we release a book for a similar reason to this, perhaps we could
send a note to the list, and bring it to the attention of someone
who might be able to fix it.
This discussion of how long books stay on the checkout list got me
to thinking. I notice that many books are taken from the first page
or 2 of results, and not the last pages. I wonder if more of the
older books would be taken, if the sort order was reversed so that
the older books appeared first. I know I've been guilty of taking
the first book that looks interesting, instead of going through the
whole list.
