I was under the impression that you could change the number of pages field when you check the book in. That worked for me in a recent case when I needed to.

Hope that helps,

Shannon

I have tended to grab from the first pages as well, but I have looked at
some of the other pages. I was afraid if they were still there after a long
time, that they might be something I couldn't handle not knowing a lot yet.
I had 3 books I had to release one had to many pages, I got the extra pages
out OK because it was a repeat of the same book, but when I went to put it
back up it still said the original number of pages, so I knew there was some
kind of trouble that I could not fix.
The other two had something about page breaks not being right, and I knew
I'd screw those up, so had to let them go.

I also released this book for that reason. I'm thinking that, when we
release a book for a similar reason to this, perhaps we could send a note
to the list, and bring it to the attention of someone who might be able to
fix it.

This discussion of how long books stay on the checkout list got me to
thinking. I notice that many books are taken from the first page or 2 of
results, and not the last pages. I wonder if more of the older books would
be taken, if the sort order was reversed so that the older books appeared
first. I know I've been guilty of taking the first book that looks
interesting, instead of going through the whole list.

I just decided to see which book has been on the checkout list the
longest and it turns out that it is one that has been downloaded by a
number of people including me. It is "The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous."
It has been there for about two years now and it is actually ready for
the collection except for one problem. There are several pages near the
beginning of the book that contain a list of characters and a description
of each. The problem is that the names do not match up with the
descriptions. I remember that I released it because I could not tell
which name belonged with which description and I could not quite tell
where one description ended and another one began. It is likely that that
is why others have released it too. I suspect that a sighted proofreader
might be able to tell how to match them up or, if not, the problem pages
might just need a rescanning. I thought I would just bring this to your
attention so that maybe someone can take a look at it and perhaps get it
moving on its long overdue way.
