I think the Plustek OpticBook is a perfectly good choice - the book
edge is unique, the price is reasonable, and its pretty fast. There
are a couple of things I don't like about it - first, it has a very
long warm-up time when you do the first scan - 45 seconds to a
minute, as I recall. Second, the software drivers and applications it
comes with are fairly non-standard, and it can be tricky getting them
to work, especially if you have, or have had, another scanner on your
system. Third, it's drivers do not support the Microsoft Scanner
Event Manager properly, so Kurzweil 1000 cannot use the buttons that
are on that scanner.
