I've seen them, too. I don't remember if I deleted themwhen proofing. I don't think I did because it didn't occur to me that they could be annoying (sorry). If I did, I probably did it manually; I'd worry that a global replace with nothing might dlete some other backets in the text, or around illustration descriptions. I haven't tried this yet but plan to in the near future. However, I would use a global replace, removing the brackets. In the book I am presently scanning, there is a closed bracket after every page number which I am removing so I guess this isn't too unusual. I don't know whether they were all added by hand or what. I haven't come across a publisher before who put the numbers in brackets. I know that if the software for conversion doesn't recognize page numbers as such, they won't be in the final book. I'm going to move the numbers to the tops of the pages, but Should I remove the brackets? What, in fact does the thing look for to make it see a page number rather than something to remove--I've just been putting the number by itself, but should there be some additional indicator? Thanks!
