Alyssa, Thanks for the information. The idea that a adf scanner could do both sides at once had never occurred to me. I guess I'm showing my age. K1000 does that, but it also allows you to scan both sides at once which saves time. -Alyssa -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Peters Sent: Thursday, June 25, 2009 11:23 AM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Out of a Scanner! Yes, I do--it's about half mile away; does your automatic document feeder or your software permit alternate-page scanning so you can do the odds first and the evens second? I had never thought about the Kinko's, and I've been scanning since 1994. I take the books there and let them chop them up. It's very easy and only costs a few dollars. -Alyssa -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Peters Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 6:44 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Out of a Scanner! I guess you have to cut the books up to use the automatic document feed. How much trouble is that--and how do you do it short of taking a pair of scissors to them? That is what I do most of the time. This one also has an ADF which is nice for books I purchase. I love being able to leave the scanner for a while to do other things, so this will be handy. I use Kurzweil or MS Office Document Scanning depending on what I'm doing. Office actually has a decent OCR engine as well which is nice. I use it for small things and use K1000 for books. -Alyssa -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Peters Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 5:29 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Out of a Scanner! The neat thing about legal-sized scanners is that you can do two-page scanning of nearly all books on one. More and more of the publishers are standardizing now, and two-page scanning can be done on a letter-sized scanner for most books. What software are you using? It's the Epson Workforce gt1500, and yes, it can scan legal-sized documents. Happy scanner hunting! -Alyssa -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Peters Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 5:00 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Out of a Scanner! What kind of scanner did you buy, and is it letter- or legal-sized? I may also be in the market for a new one. My scanner has suddenly died. It's thumping and scraping, and no one repairs scanners. So this means I won't be able to scan or fix anything anyone finds wrong with the books I've submitted without sighted help for now. I just ordered a new scanner from Amazon, but it'll be about two weeks at the most before it gets here since I chose free shipping. I guess this explains why one of my books refuses to scan properly right now. Not cool. -Alyssa To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
