Do you have a FedEx/Kinkos near you? I take the books there and let them
chop them up. It's very easy and only costs a few dollars.

I guess you have to cut the books up to use the automatic document feed.
How much trouble is that--and how do you do it short of taking a pair of
scissors to them?

I love two-page scanning. That is what I do most of the time. This one also
has an ADF which is nice for books I purchase. I love being able to leave
the scanner for a while to do other things, so this will be handy. I use
Kurzweil or MS Office Document Scanning depending on what I'm doing. Office
actually has a decent OCR engine as well which is nice. I use it for small
things and use K1000 for books.

The neat thing about legal-sized scanners is that you can do two-page
scanning of nearly all books on one. More and more of the publishers are
standardizing now, and two-page scanning can be done on a letter-sized
scanner for most books. What software are you using?

Hi Robert. It's the Epson Workforce gt1500, and yes, it can scan legal-sized
documents. Happy scanner hunting!

What kind of scanner did you buy, and is it letter- or legal-sized? I may
also be in the market for a new one.

Yikes! My scanner has suddenly died. It's thumping and scraping, and no one
repairs scanners. So this means I won't be able to scan or fix anything
anyone finds wrong with the books I've submitted without sighted help for
now. I just ordered a new scanner from Amazon, but it'll be about two weeks
at the most before it gets here since I chose free shipping. I guess this
explains why one of my books refuses to scan properly right now. Not cool.
