Hi Bob,

Okay, I said that I was shutting up. But this I am absolutely sure
about.

For daisy and braille, it does not matter where the page numbers are
placed. The page numbers are extracted to a table of contents file that
most daisy readers (not Kurzweil) use as navigation by page. And the braille
files are supposed to put the page numbers at the tops of pages. I assume
this is accurate.

The problem is with the xml files. What Marilyn said about students
trying to navigate a file applies when reading the xml file. The page
numbers appear where they were on the page, so if a kid is using the xml
file, and the page numbers are at the bottom of the page, he/she will begin
reading after a page number on the page after the page that he wanted.

So, page numbers at the tops of pages are still advisable if
navigation is to be accurate in all formats.

Really, shutting up now. I am not even going to check e-mail for
hours and hours. I feel just awful about causing all of this.

Mayrie

Oh, I hope you are right Mayrie. That would be fantastic.

Does anyone have any conclusions concerning page numbers (top, bottom,
nonexistent)?

Bob
