The Wayne County CBC was held yesterday 20 Dec. It was a good day despite the chilling 16 degree
temperature in the early AM. Total species was 86 (count high) plus a Merlin for count week.
Some Highlights of our count were:
Snow Goose (adult white morph)
Mute Swan (7 on Cooley's Pond)
Greater Scaup (1 male at Conley Bottom, L Cumberland)
Sandhill Crane 7 (5 birds in a corn field and at least 2 heard flying over by a
different party)
Rough-legged Hawks (2 an adult male and a juvenile)
American Kestrel (a high count of 54)
Eastern Phoebe 10
Brown Thrasher 2
American Pipit 61
Yellow-rumped Warbler 95 (missed last year)
Chipping Sparrow 6
Rusty Blackbird 6
Purple Finch 6

(Who, I've been told, has a very good singing voice. Apparently, one party had entertainment during
dry periods!)
