Rode with Dave Roemer & Mark Bennett up and down a number of South Logan
roadways this morning looking for anything big enough to spot from a vehicle -
that would be mostly hawks. We stopped by Steve Tyson’s house and from there
Steve's wintering Harlan’s Hawk looked to be the size of a gnat’s eyelash. We
drove several miles to get to the other side of it and got it up to the size of
a gnat’s heel. Later, on 96 near Keysburg we saw a very light Krider’s
Red-tailed Hawk. Close views, but it took off too quick for photos. On 102 near
the 848 junction we saw a light morph Harlan’s Hawk. I got a few poor pictures
of it, but didn’t get a chance to get my own scope on it. Soon after we
returned to my house Mark spotted a Cooper’s Hawk on the walnut snag by the
barn. Right after they left, it made another pass at the yard and I got its
picture as it sat on the light pole in the yard.
