Has taken me several days to get these results compiled . . . . December 29, 2002; 8 observers in 4 parties; 63 species. The weather for count day was excellent, but a lack of waterfowl and less-than-normal participation resulted in a below-average species total. The only highlight rarity for the count was a Ross's Goose in the company of a flock of domestic geese in SW Meade County (this species SURE has a penchant for big, loud, ugly geese!). A couple of other nice birds included a Bald Eagle (near the nest on the Ohio River at the park) and a Brown Thrasher. Otherwise, mostly the typical rural farmland birds were encountered. Conspicuous by their absence on this count -- as was the case for some other counts that regularly have many -- were Red-breasted Nuthatches and Purple Finches. bpb, Louisville brainard.palmer-ball@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
