Freeman is still frozen. The Cackling Geese are still present as are the
Greater White-fronted Geese, Snow Geese and the blue morph Snow Goose. The
ducks have dwindled to very low numbers. If you are looking to see the Cackling
Geese be aware that there are quite a few dead ducks and one goose on the ice
and tiny puddle that is open. It is not a sight for the faint of heart, but the
extreme cold has truly been hard on these poor ducks. I am still trying to get
the image of a Black Duck taking her last breath on the ice this morning…
nothing I could have done since he was in a location to treacherous to attempt
a rescue. Nature is cruel… all the more reason to appreciate these creatures
and their harsh reality.
