So far this week at Freeman Lake I have spotted (not counting the usual
suspects):
1 Bald Eagle
12 Ruddy Ducks
7 Scaups
3 Gadwall
13 Ruby-crowned Kinglets
6 Gold-crowned Kinglets
2 Sapsuckers
4 Juncos
Sparrows galore including White-throated, White-crowned, American Tree Sparrow,
and Swamp Sparrow.
The American Tree Sparrow ID was made with the following markers, please direct
me if it is wrong as I have only ever seen them once before: plump body, dark
upper bill, dark gray cheeks and above eye, rusty cap and eyeline, clean breast
with no streaking (did not have a smudge, back and wings were a very rich
brown/gray color. This sparrow appeared to be larger than Song Sparrow in body
and was foraging on the ground amongst Song Sparrows and other song birds.
Extremely shy- never could get a photo. (BPB- is it too early for them in
Kentucky?)
