I think that you pose an interesting question. I expect many CBC counters will be tuned in to Blue Jays. I believe that we will just have to wait for CBC data before making any conclusion about numbers. Then speculation about a cause of a drop, if documented, could become an interesting topic. It's really weird, but almost everyone says they think they are low or absent EXCEPT about a half dozen folks from around Lexington and points north and east. There have been a few exceptions in southern and western Kentucky. The feeder birds are always difficult to judge, of course, because they are present at least in part due to the feed being put out for them. Anyway, preliminary responses seem to suggest that in the northeastern quarter or so of the state they may be present in normal numbers. The CBC data should be really interesting to look at. If you look at the maximum counts listed in the update of the Annotated Checklist, you will see that there are some pretty impressive count totals to compare this year to. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
