A beautiful day of birding--only my 2nd time birding there, and I had no idea how lovely Bernheim was and how well it's kept up. I birded there today with Derek Sheffield, the Bernheim Writer in Residence. We had 35 species. I don't think I've ever seen so many Red-Breasted Nuthatches at one time: 12 (at least). They outnumbered the white-breasted. I also had no idea how many Bluebirds are there: countless numbers of them. We had 6 sparrow species and a female Harrier. A Ruddy Duck and a Hairy Woody were nice as well. Many Ruby-Crowned Kinglets but no Golden. Two Great-Horned Owls singing early on. Rebecca and Sarah served us a nice lunch at that attractive cafe in the Visitors Center.
