If you want Owls, I suggest camping in a large woods like LBL, or MACA....Land
Between the Lakes and Mammoth Cave. In the past we have camped many times at
both. Of course SMNP campgrounds great as well... Smokey Mts. Nat'l Park.
Here at Browder we have perhaps 200 acres of mature woods coming right up to
our garden from the west side. We own a little less than 1/3 of that
woods....To the east, across US 431, are hundreds of acres of old woods, part
of the original Rhoades Farm, a Revoluntionary War land grant of originally
6,000 acres, now reduced to around 1,500 acres. Henry Rhoads selected the name
Muhlenberg for this county. We are some of the caretakers of the old cemetery
where Henry is buried here at Browder.
Owls and more owls. This time of the year is ideal to camp, the temperature is
right and no bugs. But a big but, are the Corp of Engineer and National Park
campgrounds open? I don't think so? You are welcome to pitch a tent well in
back of us. It will be quiet except for muted Owl talk.

We have been to Cape May, NJ several times and the Audubon Bird Observatory,
believe the name, conducts a 24 hour bird count each May with competing teams
of 4 who start at midnight. By dawn they have 25 species and then really get
going. They drive all over NJ to previously scouted out locations. Do not
remember the totals, but up there. The hawk count at the Cape May lighthouse in
the fall is worth a NJ trip. You would not believe the daily counts on broad
wing hawks and many more.
Our one hour count of meteors was 10, including 3 very bright. We were hoping
for an earth grazer Fireball, extremely bright meteor, which this yearly shower
is famous for, but no such luck.
