High winds and low temps made birding difficult at best today at Ballard. There is some good shorebird habitat on the point of land that extends out into Lower Beaver Dam Slough from the Mitchell Lake levee. Happy Hollow lake is also at a nice level with extensive mud line exposed and no vegetation to obscure views. Most other low lying areas have been drained and Mitchell Lake itself is high. Burnt Slough is also high but should develop good habitat in the coming weeks, especially if they drain it as usual.
