Try it now, Dick, and see if you get any joy. I think I needed better seeing to 
dig out the companion. I didn't realize this was a "Sirius-pretender"! 

I've been having a good time with some close doubles, getting down to 0.5 
arcsec, which surprises me for Arizona.

BTW, your list of test doubles is good, but maybe dated. Porrima is much more 
distant than your table indicates and I suspect many of the close ones have 
changed a bit since you made the list. Do you have one for 2011 or maybe a 
place to find current information for the doubles you list? Thanks!

I got it with an 8-inch SCT at 206x in 1998 from Kansas City. But then it
was 2.8".  (It has moved 12" and 74 deg in PA since discovery in 1830.)

I tried to split tau Bootis, which is about 1.2 arcsec in separation, but
very unequal, and had no luck. Has anyone else tried it?
