Well, I didn't make it out last night, but I did tonight and it was a good
night. Although it was windy most of the day and there was the resulting
particulates in the air to make it not quite as dark as it could be (about 6th
magnitude), I was still able to observe a couple dozen galaxies in the Leo and
Ursa Major areas using my 13-inch.

After observing galaxies I looked at close doubles until the moon came up.
Although the night was not tremendously stable, I was able to continue pushing
my separations down and successfully repeated my split of alpha Comae Berenices
(0.6 arcseconds, nearly equal and both whitish), and split two new ones: eta
Coronae Borealis (0.63 arcsec, nearly equal and whitish) and my closest yet,
zeta Bootis (0.5 arcsec, nearly equal and both orangish-white), getting close
to the theoretical limit of my aperture. I tried to split tau Bootis, which is
about 1.2 arcsec in separation, but very unequal, and had no luck. Has anyone
else tried it?

Clear skies,
Wayne (aka Mr. Galaxy)

We had a pretty good night last night here, too, though it didn't seem to be as
dark as it should have been. It had been windy all day and I thought it was
dust in the air. I just found out that there was a major human-caused fire
about 45 miles away and, of course, the breeze from it was blowing our way...

Anyway, I was able to observe a few objects in Orion, but the contrast was fair
and the seeing was pretty good. I then observed M67 under high power to see
what my magnitude limit in my 13-inch was. I estimate around 16th magnitude.

Tonight looks good, maybe less breezy and a little warmer, but the smoke from
the fire still seems to be blowing in my direction. I'm going out anyway and
see what I can see.

Clear skies,
Wayne (aka Mr. Galaxy)

A beautiful night at Dewey. The forecast was for clear skies tonight and
so I took the opportunity to get some spectra since the 5 day forecast
doesn't look good. Just beautiful and calm. But cold. The forecast is
for a low of 24 tonight.
