Hi folks. I'm not exactly a noob but more of a lurker having been on the list for some years without actively participating in Astronomy. I'm hoping I'll be able to change that within the next year. Right now I have a question regarding the Hovatter Road site. North or South? Is there more than one. My girlfriend has to make some constellation observations over a six hour time period around new moon for the degree she's doing and I'm at a loss as to any decent place in Phoenix to make them. She's on the east side so I was considering the feasibility of heading out that way probably on a Sunday night in a couple of weeks. I know of course that Friday and Saturday are preferable but for logistical reasons we probably wouldn't be able to make it on those nights. I've never been there and dont posess a GPS. Can anyone give precise directions, or point to a website that has them? Also any comments on safety issues regarding the site as I assume on a Sunday night we'd probably be alone. Is the site public land or is permission required and if so from whome? Or does one have to be a member of a club to use it? Dont know if we'll manage to get out there but we need to try something. Like I said it's for a course she's taking. I used to be a member of SAC and would like to rejoin and take up the hobby again. I'm hoping this might be a prelude to doing so. Any comments will be appreciated. Including if there are any sites closer to Phoenix out west? - Peter. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
