Duty to Family

  Keith Ketchum and Mary O'Donnell

Mary read the note Steven had left her and exploded, "You boys! I can't
leave you alone for five fuckin' minutes!"

Rage rose and boiled over within her, her face burning, "O'Donnell to Captain
Ketchum, I need to see you in private now!!!!!"

"I'm in my ready room, Lieutenant, come up when you want", Keith turned to
pile of new crew requests surrounding him. Some things will always be in flux.

It appeared that today was one of those days.

He read the new orders, a new Chief Medical Officer was already assigned. It
appeared that he would have an almost new crew. After several years, he
expected to see the change over, just not all at once. But with a new ship, it
was warranted.

Downloading the note to her PADD she made her way angrily to the ready room,
taking no real notice of her new surroundings until she reached her destination
and pressed the chime.

"Enter", Keith spoke as he laid down the PADD that he was reading.

Entering Mary stood to attention and thrust forward the PADD, "Captain I
received this note from Striker. As soon I'd read it I knew I had to see you.
John's gone AWOL and Steven's gone after him."

Taking the PADD, and reading quickly. "At ease, Ms. O'Donnell." Keith
looked from the PADD to Mary. "So, what do you think we should do? Send
someone after them, report them AWOL to command and have them track them, or
just let them run?"

She relaxed slightly, "I don't think Command need be apprised sir, Steven has
only gone out of concern for John. I know them both well, and believe I can
track them down." Noticing the boxed pip for the first time, "It would be best
to deal with this in house as such."

Keith nodded. "I understand. I think that is best to do it 'in house', but
if you can't get it done, I want you to let me know. Even though John is my
son, he has a duty, and there are consequences for abandoning them."

"It's unlikely they are still with Avalon sir, and as such I'm going to have
to disembark and head back to Izar."

"Understood, do what you must, good luck and godspeed."

Mary nodded curtly, "Thank you sir. I'll find them somehow."

  "Dismissed, Lieutenant."

As Mary left the ready room, Keith knew that if she did return, that John
would not be with her. He turned his attention back to the stack of PADDs on
his desk.
