Office diagnostics thingo you have already tried was the software I was thinking of. It actually works quite well for minor issues that come up from time to time. It does sound like some sort of corruption to a dll. System and software hangs are caused by some sort of conflict between software objects. You could try a restore point before the corruption appeared (might be hard to remember that though?). The other thing to look at is the "add-ins" that have been installed into Outlook. I notice that Outlook at home on my old laptop has had a spit about a Google add-in and an Avast anti-virus item too. Particularly look at your anti-virus software - disable email scanning for a while and see what happens. You will remain protected from virus/trojan/spyware etc by keeping regular activity scanning on. Windows Vista is not detecting any problem automatically and reporting it. Also I have run Office Diagnostics to no avail - tells me everything is perfect. ck From: austechwriter-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:austechwriter-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lewington, Warren J (WT) Sent: Wednesday, 1 July 2009 10:37 AM To: austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: atw: Re: Outlook 2007/Vista problem Have you tried a detect and repair? That works in many cases where a dll or equivalent has decided to go out to lunch, which may be the problem here... My bet will be windows Update has "fixed" some problems for you. I have had a few glitches recently with Patch Tuesday updates (I turned mine off to determine what goes on and stays off for the time being) and had to restore back and unload some updates about three weeks ago. That set of updates trashed one of my laptops. I note also that IE 8 is being foisted on everyone. I haven't and won't go there until I have to, but what has been the experience for everyone else? I open Outlook, it trots off and gets my mail (either auto or manually), it downloads them all, but seems to hang on the last email - which is actually delivered. Then it goes on strike. It is hung and well retrieve no more emails. So I close it, but it is not gone - when I look in Task Manager it is still there. So I kill it in Task Manager, re-open and start again - same process - ad infinitum. This means I have to kill it in Task Manager every time I want to retrieve my email. I had this problem 18 months ago when I first got my Windows Vista/2007 system, then at some stage it went away and now it is back. Any ideas? I did have it set to minimise when I close it rather than go away completely, but have since turned that "feature" off. Regards Christine
