I have been handed HDK with an XDK cross grade (?) thing-amy jigg-amy. Well
it appears to have loaded okay.
Now, how do I use it?

Tell me, do the Cd's they supplied with the software work well as coffee
coasters or should I consider them of more value? Actually from what I
understand, the HDK/XDK gear is pretty good? Also, what doco should I go
to; to learn how to use the software, what gotchas should I avoid, and how
do I get started with the software? I have used Robohelp X3 (which was a
big help).

Can people recommend a users group or two? I have visited the Virtual Media
site and they seem to have some links to groups... Is any one of those
particularly good or bad?

I have a situation where there is a bit of time to learn how to use XDK and
a reasonable deadline with an opportunity to produce some good quality
help.
The ultimate goal is to produce context sensitive help for a large-ish Java
based web application for the automotive industry (brilliant stuff
actually, going to turn dealership management software on its ear). For now
the management would be happy to get a basic Help-file system running.
Obviously I would like to start project planning with the context
sensitivity goal in mind, so I don't have to start again in 3 months...

Print documentation is currently in MicroSludge (oops Microsoft) Worse
(beg pardon: Word) (if here long term I will GET Framemaker) using the
usual range of old templates/ bad half baked styles and fields etc. I am
reducing the crap but finding I may need to start again...

Any suggestions on learning XDK/HDK efficiently would be a great help
people.

Thanks in advance, and have a wonderful day.
Warren (wiff a noo Email!)
