The white dot in the narrow end of the base/cradle is a white calibration
tile that the spectro needs to properly calibrate itself. It is matched to
the spectro (or the other way around) and carries the same serial number as
the spectro. A base/cradle from a different i1 won't give you a proper
calibration.
