That'll be it. Even though I checked explicitly for it - or thought I
did - when I noticed the eventual brightness value being so suspiciously
close to 2.2 .

What a stupid waste of time. Sorry.

Now I'm left wondering why, with -b 2.2, I get similar results to lprof
set to native display brightness. I'll have to see what it's aiming for.
