I like Heidi's proposal.
I also think Ray is right (sorry, Ray; "left" just doesn't work in
the sentence) when he says the discussion will be more meaningful if
everyone has read the piece beforehand. I realize this may seem
burdensome since the texts are on the longish side. I also realize
such a recommendation carries little weight coming from someone who
actually enjoys reading stuff like this, when many people think it is
too technical and maybe not that interesting. But I think the
conversation will be more fruitful even if everyone only skims the
articles. Skimming may not provide a thorough understanding of the
material, but it should at least make one aware of the issues at
stake, and it should highlight the basic points the author is making.
This is worth a lot in discussions that are only one hour long anyway.

And I don't want to miss the active discussion portion of the other
group, therefore, I propose:
5 minutes - Introduction from the discussion leader (Ray) to the
whole group
15 minutes - Sharing one's initial thoughts within a small group of
6-10 people, (2 minutes max. per person)
5 minutes - Coming back together as a whole group and briefly
sumarizing the main thoughts.
30 minutes - Active discussion among whole group
5 minutes - Final comments by group members and closing thoughts by
the leader.
