If the machine isn't trimming consistantly, there could be a number of 
contributing factors and an experienced tech chases them down one by one.
My first thoughts are that you may simply have a lot of debris trapped between 
the knives.  If you have already cleaned this area, then the troubleshooting 
would have to begin.
If you do decide to purchase new trimmer blades, know that they are going to be 
between $40 and $50 bucks a piece. (There's two knives)
After you install the knives, they then have to be calibrated for optimal 
function and to prevent premature failure and/or wear.
If you happen to install new blades and the machine trims with success, and for 
many years, that would be nothing short of simply "great".
