Thanks for the added information Ed, kind of what I had thought but for my own edification I needed to hear it from someone such as yourself. Larry, As I sit here thinking, I can't recall that there would be a PROBLEM if you leave the Force Download feature turned on. It's just a manual setting for getting you out of buggy situations which is possible for most computerized industries. ( I know some of the PC guys out there will say it's a Microsoft Windows thing and not so common for other software platforms. ) Any hoo, Something in the back of my mind says I do recall hearing to set it back to off when you are finished with it. But again, not necessarily because of PROBLEMS that would result. Let's get technical for a moment... What is happening there is when you load a file to your machine, although pretty fast and among other things that are happening, you might be able to see as the percentage bar builds across the screen -while the design is being sent to the machine, both RSA and CSA files are being sent as well. RSA files are for the Amaya and CSA files are for the PC. Both RSA and CSA files have version numbers. Most recent versions of these files are sent to the Amaya whenever you first install the machine, upgrade software, change out the main board, or turn on the Force Download feature. Normally, as you turn on the machine, the Amaya talks to the PC, compares version numbers and says "yeah, yeah, yeah, - I've got the same version RSA and CSA files I had the last time I was powered up". Hence, no reason to send over the same files. If the PC says "hey girl, I've got some new file versions over here...", then automatically they are sent over, updated, and stored on the main board for all future power ups. Sometimes power glitches, software bugs, space invaders(games), screen savers, multi tasking, other networks tied into the Amaya PC, and the list goes on... all the while you are running the Amaya or simply have the Amaya turned on could cause the RSA or CSA files to become unhappy. Otherwise known as "corrupted". By resending them or Force Downloading them, this resets them and makes them happy again. (..Supposed to anyway.) Now I remember!!! (This just in...) If you leave the Force Download feature on, it could have an effect (or possibly negate) the power save rescue feature of the Amaya. What this means is if for any reason you were to lose power to the entire system, when you power back up, you should be able to pick up where you left off just like on the older machines built prior to Amayas (i.e. EMT...). Once you power back up, and the Force Download feature is left on, the RSA and CSA files would reset and then you'd have to figure out for yourself where in world you left off at. And that's no fun. So I guess you would turn this feature off for the same reasons you would turn the auto save feature on in Design Shop. As a preventive measure. If you haven't turned on the Auto Save feature in Design Shop yet, do it now and save yourself a headache later. Good Luck. Ed Ed & Maralien Orantes E.M. Good evening Ed: I just went through the same thing with a tech from Melco 2 weeks ago for a problem that required a force download. He (the tech) told me to leave it in the force download setting and not to set it back to the default. My question is this having had no problems to date, have I set myself up for a failure by not putting it back as found. I realize you may not know this as a positive but I would greatly appreciate your opinion. With nothing on but the computer.. Open Amaya OS. Don't turn the machine on yet. After it loads, click on the "tools" tab, then "options", then "Ethernet". Click on the "Force Download" box to turn it on. Click okay, Now turn on your machine. Try a different design, preferrably on that you know worked before. If this fixes your troubles, go back and turn that setting back off. The default for that feature is "off". If you still have problems, you may have to uninstall Amaya OS and then reinstall it. Sounds like something in the program files got messed up. Sometimes the "Force Download" will fix it and others reinstalling software will do it. Let us know of your progress. Whenever we go to load a design the machine instead of finding center goes all the way to the side and jams. Any ideas? We have tried re-starting and re-booting.
