Thanks for the help, Adrien - and apologies for the delay in replying. I have had a quick look at Speed Fan and will give it a try sometime. I may also contact you off list later if I decide to take advantage of your offer of the other program you mention. I now remember that the software I used to have on an old desk top was SISoft Sandra - it gave a great deal of information about the system including temperatures. Actually this present laptop does not seem to overheat unless I use it for very long periods, but I have a new one on order which has a much more powerful processor. I am wondering whether overheating may be more of a problem for the latter and monitoring the temperature may become more important.
