George's Windows 7 RTM upgrade story is a little bit disturbing and
doesn't chime with my experience at all. I think he was doing a VISTA
downgrade PC but it really shouldn't be causing a lot of trouble. I was
doing a clean install on a Sony VAIO laptop and usually laptops of this
nature are much harder going than a more standard desktop PC of almost
any variety. Also the nature of what went down is problematic as if you
at least have the network then it is possible for Windows installer to
find the necessary driver to update the system automatically createing a
reasonably transparent upgrade experience.

Having said that any kind of O/S upgrade should not be considered
lightly at all. It will be interesting this year as I not only will be
doing Windows 7 proper as of late October but by then will also have
gone through a similar transition on the Mac at home as well so I will
be intersting to compare the notes.

Regards.
