Andy,Hmmm! Maybe a sound card issue. Look in Control Pannel, Sound Devices, and see if it shows up it one of the tabs there. (This is assuming Vista has things set out similarly to XP in this respect and that, if you tab around, the recording device is given.)
Can't be much help otherwise I'm afraid ... -- Carol carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxOn Monday, March 31, 2008 12:08 PM (UK time), Andy Collins at andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx said:
Hi Carol - Having got Goldwave recording streems fine from my XP machine, I've just been trying to do the same on my Vista laptop, but when I look under the volume tab under prefereences in Goldwave, There is just a list of hardware devices, such as speakers, mic, headphones, there is no mono/stereo check box as there is on my XP machine, this may be about my sound card on my Vista machine more than about Vista itself, but either way, I can't record a streem on the laptop! Gold wave does play other recorded files under Vista though! - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Pearson" <carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 6:03 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: VISTA and recording with GoldWaveYou could contact the guy who writes the software for GoldWave and see what he says about Vista. There's a contact on www.goldwave.com -- Carol carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx On Sunday, March 30, 2008 5:28 PM (UK time), Andy Logue at andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx said:Hi Ray. I followed the instructions, but unfortunately , it did not assist me much. Caroline told me to go into Sound/Recording and look for other devices. I did this but only got one more Line-In function, associated to the computer's internal card. I've got my Soundblaster set as the default and I can listen to the BBC Player and listen to music files using GoldWave, but as yet, I cannot find a way of getting GW to record audio streams. This is so frustrating and disappointing Ray. If I cannot resolve this issue, I'll need to consider removing VISTA and installing XP Media Center. Best wishes. From Ray I can be contacted off-list at: mailto:ray-48@xxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- James O'Dell Subject: [access-uk] Re: VISTA and recording with GoldWave Andy Try this info. I'm not a Vista user myself, but understand that you can record 'what you hear'. *** start of copied text *** go to, control panel (classic view) - sound - recording tab - right click in the white area - select 'show disabled devices' - right click on stereo mix - select 'enable' now you can use any progam you like e.g. audacity to record what you hear. *** End of copied text *** Hope this is useful, sorry I can't provide any specific instructions on how to achieve this with a screenreader. I have a lovely new crispy VISTA computer yet I'm using my really old Packard Bell to record radio shows tonight. I really do hope that VISTA is not going to prevent me from using GoldWave and recording "What you Hear". I'm waiting on some advise from the experts in this regard, but my gut feeling is that copywrite is so important, they will only now allow you to listen and not record just about anything coming through your computer.. I really do hope I'm proven wrong here as recording audio is a very big part of my interest in computing. without this function, then there is little in computing for me I'm thinking. If you manage to getaround thisproblem, please let me know about it eh? Very best wishes. I have had errormessages suchas "Access violation" etc. from time to time, and have reverted to doing all recording on an XP system until I have time to sort out whether there is really a problemwithGoldwave and Vista.
