OK Darren.
1. Go to control panel and system. Note: You can get there quicker by hitting windows key plus pause.
2. Go to the advanced tab and hit space ont he first settings button.
3. Untick the box that says automatic restart.
Apply and ok your way out.
Now try shutting down.
Does the machine still restart?
Or does it shut down.
Hi,
I ignored it for some time before I had other crashes and my drive then died. Currently the drive is out on Tuesday and I should have another one to start over again!
This is probably not what you wanted to hear either, but I didn't really look hard for solutions on the WEB so there may be a fix out there worth looking for.

Hi List.
it to, itOver the last day or so I've been unable to turn off my PC in the conventional way. Instead of the PC switching off after I tellrestarts. It restarts when I hit restart, and it restarts when Ihitstand-by as well come to that!
Basically, the PC will not turn itself off.
Each time it restarts, I also get a winlogon.exe error message aswell.
I've tried running all sorts of virus checks and registry repairsetc, butnothing is working. Has anyone else ever encountered thisproblem?
Regards.
