Hi, it may be as you say and is visually appealing. I do know that when Dragon switched to Windows 7 she did not like the Microsoft options and looked elsewhere. Hence she ended up with Thunderbird. It ticks all the boxes for her and as she is very switched on in I T and software matters the aesthetics would be for her of secondary importance to what she could do with it. She loves it and as a result I gave it a go on her advice.

I did not find it worked that well with Jaws 12 and it ended up being a rather frustrating time trying to get it to work for me as a blind user. It could have been me perhaps but I can see the potential it offers but at present I would say that some work still remains to be done before considering this as a viable email client.

Dragon found an alternative free email client for me called Postbox Express, which is no longer supported but still available to download. It is loosely based on Thunderbird but seems to work better with Jaws. It doesn't have all the functions of Thunderbird, but as I only want it for reading and sending emails it works for me. Another friend also had problems with Thunderbird and switched to Postbox Express after I had been using it for a while. It works for her as well, so we are both happy. It can be downloaded from here: http://www.postbox-inc.com/express_features. The full version is paid for and is just called Postbox and has so many features that I would never use as a blind user. The only real downside to Postbox Express is that you can only use a maximum of 2 email accounts with it, but that is not currently a problem for me.

Hi Trace, I had a go using Thunderbird and it proved to be less than
user friendly. I tried scripts that were meant to improve things but the
net result was a laptop that would not really work.

It could of been me but as my wife is sighted and uses it with no
problems, she is a fan of Thunderbird it appears that the screen reading
poses problems which are still to be fully resolved. Like you I miss OE.
Regards Clive.
