Hi Jackie,

The speech on the Nano is not built in. Itunes generates it from any SAPI
voice on your computer. This is the joy of it. I can use my favourite
Acapela Lucy to make my Nano talk. They've done a great job with it.

All the best

Steve

In addition to what has been said already, I had a brief look at the
I-Tell at Sight Village when it was launched. I actually thought it
was a very clever device in that it allows you to use any iPod except
the iTouch and iPod Shuffle devices. From what little I saw of it, I
thought the voices weren't too bad compared to some I've heard. As long
as I could hear what I am selecting to play, I'd be happy with that.
I'm still yet to try out a Nano to see what it is like with the built-in
speech menu system.

Yeah, it does sound like Dectalk, hence me not liking the speech at much
as I would when I get my new iPod. I know a friend who's got an iAudio,
but can't remember what exactly it is, apart from that it's a hard
drive-based player.
