Hi Ian,
They say that any Epson scanner works well with K1000 and I can vouch for 
that.  I use an Epson 1660, which you can't get any more unfortunately, and 
I've had pretty good scans.  Am I right in thinking you use Kw1000?  If you 
do, and you go to their website,

there's a section on the site called scanner compatibility which suggests 
the best models to use.
