What I would try is first copy all the dbx files to a backup place. Then delete all of them (OE does create them again if they've been deleted). Then try and run OE. If it runs, and she had her settings so that mail remained on the server then it should all be downloaded again. If not, you can gradually reintroduce the dbx files you copied, folder by folder (quit OE, copy a file, start OE, redo this for each folder). Don't copy back the old copy of folders.dbx as this is the file OE uses to keep information about all the other folders, and if the problem/corruption was in there in the first place you don't want to reintroduce it. OE will create a new folders.dbx file itself.

Carol, thanks for the help, greatly appreciated. I don't think a re-installwould be worth taking the risk, however I will try removing the identities folder and see what happens. The last time she was able to run OutlookExpress was before last week. She thinks that some malware got installed onher system, which was picked up by Ad Aware, and she somehow thinks themalware has damaged Outlook Express. All the malware appeared to do was slow down her system, but clearly did something more malicious in the background<smiles>. Anyway thanks again, and yes, I'll let you know how we get on. The option to "Repair Outlook Express" threw up a few interesting links to things that are *definitely* supposed to work ... (maybe)! I wouldn't personally hold your breath.Try to get your friend to think when last it was running and what she's donesince that time, with new installations of other items, updates etc. This may help. Mind you, if it's not working then you haven't got a great deal to lose. You're not supposed to copy the "Inbox" for example, but I think it probablyre-creates itself if it's not found ... so I might be inclined to try removing it from the folder where the .DBX files are stored and see what happens then. (Keep it safe of course in case you want to put it back.) <Smiles> I'd be personally interested to know how you go on with this little nut. -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Hallsworth" <christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, October 09, 2007 4:33 PM Subject: [access-uk] Repairing Outlook ExpressHi all, I was hoping my friend would post this query, but ah well, no worries.Anyway I will be seeing her this Saturday for the day, and one of the jobswill be to try and repair her Outlook Express so that it at least runs. I suggested to her that I'll attempt to delete her identities folder. Will itfix the problem whereby she can in no way start Outlook Express, as if shetries to it just doesn't run. She currently uses Outlook, but prefers Outlook Express over the former. What else could I do in order to fix the above. Thanks in advance.
